National Deworming Campaign to Be Held in Coimbatore District on August 10
Around 24% of the population is affected by intestinal worm infections transmitted through contaminated soil. Even if just 1% of the population practices open defecation, it can lead to intestinal worm infections among people living in the surrounding areas.
Intestinal worm infections can be transmitted to humans through contaminated soil, through food products grown in contaminated soil, and through contact of hands and feet with contaminated soil. Considering this, the Government of Tamil Nadu has been implementing the National Deworming Programme twice a year since 2015.
As part of this year’s deworming campaign, Albendazole deworming tablets will be distributed free of cost on 10.08.2026 through 1,697 Anganwadi Centres, 985 private schools, 1,070 Government and Government-aided schools, 150 colleges, 90 Primary Health Centres, and 530 Sub-Health Centres in Coimbatore district.
The tablets will be administered to children who are missed during the campaign on 17.08.2026.
