Vitamin A Supplementation Campaign for Children Aged 6 Months to 5 Years to Be Held in Coimbatore District from 26.10.2026 to 31.10.2026
Vitamin A is an essential nutrient for the human body and plays a vital role in maintaining healthy eyesight. It is also necessary for strengthening the immune system and supporting the growth of the skin, tissues and bones.
Vitamin A deficiency can cause conditions such as xerophthalmia (dryness of the eyes), Bitot’s spots (whitish, triangular patches on the conjunctiva) and night blindness. If left untreated, these conditions may lead to vision loss.
Considering the importance of Vitamin A, the Government provides free Vitamin A supplementation twice a year to children aged 6 months to 5 years across the country. Accordingly, the Vitamin A supplementation campaign for 2026 will be conducted in Coimbatore District from 26.10.2026 to 31.10.2026, excluding Wednesday.
The campaign will be conducted free of cost at 90 Government Primary Health Centres, 530 Health Sub-Centres and 1,697 Anganwadi Centres across the district. A total of 728 field workers from the Public Health Department and 1,452 field workers from the Integrated Child Development Services Department will participate in the campaign. Arrangements have been made to provide Vitamin A supplementation to 2,54,850 children in Coimbatore District.
The District Health Officer, Mr. Balusamy, has requested the public to ensure that children aged 6 months to 5 years receive Vitamin A supplementation during the campaign to protect their eyesight and prevent health complications caused by nutritional deficiencies.
